RECRUITING

• hold an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent
• physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position having regard to their safety and to the safety of the public
• valid drivers licence with an accumulation of no more than six demerit points
• uncorrected 20/40 vision both eyes and colour deficiency within established limits
• normal hearing at frequncies of 500 to 4000 Hz measured by audiometer
• valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificates
• Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
• of good moral character and habit
• not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been obtained

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• respond to calls for service
• confront and resolve emergency and non-emergency situations in a manner that protects lives and property
• maintain public order and provide assistance
• enforce laws, investigate and when appropriate, arrest offenders, lay information and prepare cases for court
• prepare and submit timely and complete verbal and written reports concerning investigations and police service activities
• actively identify problems in the community
• submit regular progress reports

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

• When the Service is accepting resumes, apply by submitting a complete resume and cover letter along with a current copy of your OACP Certificate of Results, completed Application for Police Constable/Cadet, Applicant Survey Form (not mandatory) and Authorization for Release of Information, which can be downloaded below.
• The Brantford Police Service has contracted with Applicant Testing Services (ATS) to provide the pre-interview assessment (Standardized Tests) of applicants for sworn positions.
• All applicants must successfully complete the Standardized Tests of Stage 4 of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Constable Selection System.
  
  These tests comprise Stage Four of the Constable Selection System:
  • Police Analytical Thinking Inventory (PATI)
  • Written Communication Test (WCT)
  • Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP)
  • Vision and Hearing tests
  • Behavioral Personnel Assessment Device for Police (B-PAD).
  
  
• Prior to applying for a sworn position with the Service, an applicant will arrange for and complete the tests. To arrange for your standardized tests visit the ATS website at: www.applicanttesting.com
• When the Service is accepting resumes, apply by submitting a complete resume and covering letter along with a current copy of your OACP Certificate of Results which you will receive from ATS. Include in your current employment status, education, community/volunteer service, related experience and special skills.
• Selected applicants will be invited to attend for interviews.
• The final steps in the process include psychological testing, background checks and a medical examination
• Shortly after hiring, cadets will be sent to the Ontario Police College for the Basic Constable Training Course
