NEED A PARDON?

You are eligible to apply for a Pardon if:

  • You’ve been convicted of a federal offence as an adult

  • At the earliest, three years have passed since you completed your sentence.

An application for a Pardon is contained in the Pardon Application Guide, complete with step-by-step instructions. Each step in the Pardon Application Guide must be followed in sequence prior to filling out the Pardon Application. Pay particular attention to:

Step 1 - Obtain Your Criminal Record

Fingerprinting is conducted by the Brantford Police Service by calling (519) 756-0113, extension 3000. Kindly leave a message and an officer will return your call with a date and time for printing.

Step 5 – Obtain Local Police Record

A Local Police Check Form must be completed by each Police Service where you have resided in the past five years. The Brantford Police Service charges $25 for this service. However, if you also require a Local Police Records Check from another police agency, you will have to contact that police agency in order to confirm the cost and procedures prior to attending.

Once you have completed the process, you are now ready to fill in the Pardon Application which is Step 7.

WHAT ABOUT A POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE OR FINGERPRINTING?

The Brantford Police Service provides Police Clearance Certificate for residents of the City of Brantford. In order to save you time, please download the Application for Police Clearance Certificate, print it off, and complete it prior to attending our station.

POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE INFORMATION

EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 3, 2009

Policy with respect to the confirmation of a criminal record is now restricted for release by Police Services without having fingerprints completed and submitted to the RCMP for positive identification.

The Brantford Police Service is providing to the applicant a form letter advising that “THERE MAY OR MAY NOT BE A CRIMINAL RECORD IN EXISTENCE. INFORMATION CAN ONLY BE CONFIRMED BY FINGERPRINT COMPARISON.”

The applicant must now have fingerprints completed and forwarded to the RCMP in order for the “official criminal record” to be returned to the applicant.

The Brantford Police Service does provide fingerprinting services for applicants, at a cost of $26.75 (GST included), however, an appointment must be made by contacting (519) 756-0113 ext 3000.

The applicant will be given the copy of the fingerprints taken by the Police Service and will have to mail them along with a certified cheque or money order for $25.00 directly to Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Civil Fingerprint Screening Services, P.O. Box 8885, OTTAWA ON K1G 3M8.

Questions or concerns may be directed to Mrs. Cathy Drinkwater, I/C Records, Brantford Police Service (519) 756-0113 ext 2251 or by email to cdrinkwater@police.brantford.on.ca.
